Easter Sunday. This was my first time on the slopes and Dilip’s N-th time. This time got him suddenly keen on skiing and he hit the slopes again with friends, soon after this trip.
We did dome research online and figured out it would be cheaper to take a Bay Area – Tahoe ski bus than the 2 of us driving up there with snow chains/4-wheel drive. There are many ski bus services, and we chose one that had a pick up stop in Berkeley. If you wish, you can opt for a 1-day or a 2-day trip, the bus ride alone or you can add on the ski ticket, rentals, lesson package etc. On our way back they played movies back to back, keeping us entertained.
We headed to Northstar-at-Tahoe. Its a nice resort with good beginner slopes. They had mats to get up the slopes each time, which made it very convenient. We reached a little late for the first lesson of the day and decided to take the second one. During the wait, we did some snow tubing. The experience reminded me of ‘Black Thunder’, except here it is snow spraying onto your face.
The thing I dislike about skiing is the ski shoes. I struggled to put them on and didn’t like having to walk around in them at all. But the lessons were good though I am a slow learner. On the brighter side, I didn’t take too many falls and was mostly on my feet. By the end of the day, we were so exhausted that nothing mattered more than food, a hot bath and sleep!
